Oklahoma DECA Attends ICDC


DECA chapter members earned the organization’s highest honors at DECA’s 66th annual International Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah, April 28-May 1, 2012.

DECA’s renowned Competitive Events Program uses role-plays, career cluster exams, online simulations and written projects to evaluate the academic knowledge and career skills DECA members develop in their marketing, entrepreneurship, finance, hospitality and management classes. The knowledge and skills assessed are part of National Curriculum Standards identified by industry leaders as essential for college and career success in today’s global economy.

During the school year, approximately 120,000 of DECA’s 200,000 student members take part in the organization’s competitive events program, allowing them to compete for local and association titles. The DECA International Career Development Conference is the pinnacle of competition where nearly 10,000 students vie for international honors.

 

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA enhances the preparation for college and careers by providing co-curricular programs that integrate into classroom instruction, apply learning, connect to business and promote competition. DECA’s student members leverage their DECA experience to become academically prepared, community oriented, professionally responsible, experienced leaders.

 

DECA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit student organization that operates in all 50 United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands, Canada, Mexico, Germany, and Korea.





DECA Day at the Capital - 2012

Oklahoma DECA members attended DECA Day at the Capitol April 11, 2013.  Students were introduced to the House of Representatives be Representative Jerry McPeak.  Senator Bryce Marlatt introduced DECA to the Senate.  Students and advisors scheduled meetings and visited with their local legislators to inform them about DECA.  Students also had the opportunity to take a tour of Capitol and have lunch at the Capitol.  Representative McPeak visited with students on the floor of the House after lunch and pictures were taken.  Students learned a great deal about our political system and also were able to provide information about DECA.   Chapters attending included:  Francis Tuttle Technology Center, Moore Norman Technology Center, Mustang, Durant, Putnam City North, Edmond Santa Fe, and Ada.  Latta students had a virtual DECA Day at the Capitol since they were unable to attend.  Students watched the videos of the proceedings and participated in a web conference with their legislators.
